Root cause of physical pain

What’s the real cause of chronic pain?
Is it your spine? Or your disks?

Your spine is in most cases not the cause of your pain. Despite what you’ve been told by doctors. You can read that phrase again. The current believe is that a physical problem in your body is causing the pain. That e.g. your spine is the culprit. Or your disks.

But this is untrue for most cases.

There is enough evidence from studies that shows that problems with discs and spine like bulging disc, herniated disc, spinal stenosis, whiplash, sciatica or any other structural issue cannot be the cause of the pain.

As an example; people without back pain went through an MRI and two out of three had ‘abnormalities’ in their spine. It’s true that MRI and scans show the internal of the body, but what does that really say on the cause of pain? The results don’t necessarily explain the pain. Because if a specific abnormality would be the cause of the pain, then everybody who had that abnormality should suffer the same pain. And that’s just not the case.

So if you try to ‘work on your back’ which is not the cause , then current pain relief methods cannot be beneficial. They are working temporarily, they treat symptoms.

What IS really causing your pain?

If structure is not the cause of pain… then what is? We all have stress in our lives. Especially in this fast-paced society. And stress causes tension in your body. The tensions can get so high that your body starts to protest. Pain is a sign from the body: a warning that something needs your attention. Not necessarily look where the pain is manifesting itself, but rather have a look at what else is going on in your life.

Often pain comes up in stressful periods. Everybody knows that stress and tension aggravate pain. But how can an abnormality in your spine be the cause of your pain if stress makes it worse? Stress and tension don’t change your spine, nor your disks. Stress doesn’t change your back, nor your leg or where-ever you have pain in your body.

How does the mind-body connection play a role?

What many people don’t realize is that the cause of stress and tension is actually what causes the pain. It starts the physical process for pain. If you have any change in pain (up or down), stress or tension lets you know that the problem originates in your brain. And not in your body. It’s a process that starts in your brain, actual physical changes take place and the end result is pain or tingling or numbness or weakness. You’re probably wondering what this process is that creates pain, right?

It’s about Diversion Pain Syndrome.

If you remove the diversion, your pain will disappear. It’s a psycho-physical activity: something happens in your brain and the result is physical pain.
It’s a psycho-somatic process, in other words, it’s about the mind-body connection.

Does that mean the pain is in your head? Does that mean you’re crazy?
